Rest day ? the other side of Col d'Ornon

Today's blog has been passed on to Norm for his version of today's events. The rest of us deny everything.......

Having knocked over two HC hills on Mon Tues an easy day has been declared to ready us for a tough ride tomorrow to get to our first TdF stage. The easy day ended up at 77km with 1425m climb, pretty hard to not ride hills around here.

Plan for the day is to head south and explore a couple of valleys. Our digs are about 2.5km from the top of the Col de Ornon (a col is a mountain pass) with about 200m  elevation to the top. So it's straight into a 10% grade on legs still creaking from yesterday. We are soon plunging down the other side (well the other 3 plunge while I amble down) for 8km, thinking all the way that we have to get back up this hill to get home. One thing I have noticed is that the wind seems to generally blow up the valleys', very handy so hope it continues that way. The other thing is that a lot of the roads look flat when riding uphill but seem steep when going down, don't know how they build them that way but I like it.

Tim being a management type is very good on the acronyms and has declared this tour to be NWNS, the NS stands for no salad (leave it to the readers to work out what the NW stands for). At lunch today he stuck to his guns & ordered the Cheeseburger Chips & Salad but in his best broken French managed to get the lady of the house to hold the salad & double the fries. Peter ends up with the same order but not sure if that's what the plan was, ordering food is an adventure.

Looking forward to tomorrow, we ride from our digs & expect we will be in a convoy for a 2-3 hr ride to get a spot just below the top of Col du Glandon.
And a few photos of the day:
